LunatiK ARL GT Championship S5 : Race 4 Mosports

Race number 4 of the Apex Racing League GT Championship Season 5 sponsored by Wave Italy was held at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park also known as Mosports. On a beautiful sunny day in Canada we saw a rather shallow turnout compared to the past three races. With only 29 drivers entered into the session a lot of points were up for grabs if one could keep it safe around the track. With fast sweeping corners and rarely any curbing disaster could strike at any moment. LunatiK drivers Nick Mathews and Collin McKenzie were present as David Bush was still on vacation. Nick had one of his personal best qualifying sessions which put him ahead of most of rivals in the point standings. Unfortunately tragedy struck on lap 1 where the car on the inside line could not hold the line and made contact with Nick’s door which pushed him onto the grass and into the wall. Nick tried to finish the race but finished in p24. Collin had some trouble of his own spinning out in one of the high speed corners in his Ford GT. This lead him to be a lap down and finish in p19, which was p6 in the amateur class. The feature raced started with Nick on pole position with the reverse start and Collin in p6. On lap 1 tragedy struck McKenzie as the blue and white ford dipped a rear wheel into the dirt which caused him to lose control spin off the track. He battled his way back to a p18 finish right behind Mathews in p17. Mathews had some issues as well, he was involved in a not a fault accident where an approaching car did not slow down for a yellow flag and made contact with Mathews who was trying to avoid the incident. These positions were good enough for p6 and p7 in the amateur class. Much needed points for both drivers and for the team as well. Next race is at Silverstone on July 18th, 2021 at 3pm est.
